The National Convention of the 29th Division Association will be held
at the Holiday Inn Valley View at 3315 Ordway Drive, Roanoke, VA. The
event is schedule for October 20, 2010 to October 24, 2010.
Visitors using automobile travel should use I-81 and take exit 143
which is I-581. Then take exit 3 to the hotel.
Guests should begin arriving on Thursday, October 21st and should plan
their arrival for not later than 1:00 p.m. For those who intend to do
so, a trip is scheduled to leave the hotel at 2:00 p.m. and travel to
the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, VA. For those who have
never been to this beautiful memorial, or have not visited recently,
you owe it to yourself to make this trip..
On Friday our bus will leave the hotel at 9:30 a.m. on a planned visit
to Mill Mountain. This beautiful spot, just 15 minutes from
downtown Roanoke has a lovely view of the city and is the location of
the famed 88 foot high lighted star. Departing this area, we will
again enjoy a great lunch at the K & W Cafeteria before heading on
to Lexington, Virginia and the famous campus of Virginia Military
Institute
(VMI). Here we hope to receive a limited tour of the campus with
stops at the VMI Museum and also the George C. Marshall Museum.
Hopefully, we will visit with some of the student during their busy
classroom exercises. A buffet meal will be held at the hotel that
evening.
The annual business meeting will take place at the hotel on Saturday
morning beginning at 10:00 a.m. until roughly 3:00 p.m. The meeting
will also include the election of new officers for the year
2010/2011. Our plan is to install both ladies and men to their
new National position just prior to the closing of the meeting.
The hotel has planned a casual lunch menu for us and we will attempt to
provide shopping opportunities for the ladies. Later that evening our
normal Convention banquet will be held with several dignitaries and a
guest speaker in attendance. Sunday morning, we will conclude the event
with our National Memorial Service beginning at 9:30, and followed by
NEC I meeting for all Executive Committee members.
We are now exploring various opportunities for the 2011 National Convention in either Pennsylvania or West Virginia.
